MANILA, Philippines – Have you ever had that feeling of wanting more, but there was nothing left to be given?
Those moments when you feel bitin can be as simple as your favorite series ending with a cliffhanger, or as complicated as the demise of an almost-relationship without any closure.
The waiting game makes it harder. Months of making do with reruns before the next season premiere. Minutes that feel like hours as you agonize over whether your crush would reply or not. Or even when your mobile data hits its limit and you can’t update your Facebook feed, get updates on breaking news, or watch that video that everyone is talking about.
Call it #Hugot or what not, but nothing will be OK until that bitin feeling is satisfied and you can go on through your day. Crazy as it sounds, it does happen.
Here are examples of some bitin scenarios that can happen to anyone. See if you can relate to any of them.
1. Relationships or lack thereof
Let’s say you’re exchanging text messages with your crush. It’s going well, you’re all smiles, and feeling great. But then he or she stops replying. You count the minutes that turn to hours then days and weeks, watching your phone like a lion waiting to pounce on its prey.
This is probably one of the hardest waiting games you’ll ever have to play.
Yes? No? Maybe you’re just waiting for someone to like you back and get out of the “No boyfriend / girlfriend since birth” club. Only time can tell or until you finally have the courage to go up to that one person you feel likes you back.
In the meantime, keep yourself busy and productive. There are other things in life that matter more than getting into a relationship. Maybe, make time for family and friends, focus on moving forward in your career, or explore hobbies that can perk up your life beyond the thrill of a romance.
2. So pumped during a sweat session
You've just completed an intense spin class or boxing session to destress from another heavy work week. Or maybe it's a feel-good gym workout that allowed you to push yourself to beyond your limits by increasing weights and reps. These sessions make you want to scream, shout and cheer; for yourself or for others. Next thing you know, it’s time to stretch, cool down, and go home.
But you still want to keep on going. The adrenaline rush makes you want to keep on pushing: you’re in the zone, your game face still on and you don’t want to get out of it!
Bad news is class is over and your body needs time to rest and recover. But the good news is you’re always in control of your workouts and you can take another class to satisfy the urge to scream, shout and cheer. If you feel like you can do more, you have the option to go for more. You just need to find that sweet spot so you can feel awesome, and at the same time, keep your mind and body in shape.
3. Movie or TV cliffhangers
It’s the season finale of your favorite series, or the heart-stopping last scene of a superhero movie you’ve waited for all year. But you still have so many burning questions! What happens next? Who’s that new character? How long before we find out? Where will the story go from here?
What a bummer, right? Yet another waiting game that makes you want for more but the only thing left to do is to, well, wait.
Stave off that bitin feeling by reading articles on theories, making do with reruns, trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible, and waiting for the next trailer or teaser to come out. And when the next installment finally comes out, boy, does it feel good. You can finally move on and see where the next chapter takes you.
4. An awesome dessert
That chocolate lava cake that everyone’s been posting about on social media is finally in front of you. It seems smaller than what you expected it to be, but the hype was just too much for you to ignore.
As expected from a self-proclaimed sweet tooth, you finish the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. Unfortunately, your taste buds are left wanting for more. But then you think to yourself if the extra sugar in your system, calories gained, and money out of your pocket are worth it. It’s just too good.
You have three choices: order a 2nd serving, come back another time, or spend a lifetime wondering, “What if you had more?”
5. The need for convenient mobile data
If you’re a prepaid subscriber, looking for available Wi-Fi in a café or restaurant is probably a typical situation you find yourself in. The only way to stay connected is if you actually stay in that establishment – which is unfortunate, especially in the age of Snapchats and “ATM” (that’s “at the moment”) posts. When you’re only given limited use of the Internet, uploading your meticulously-edited photo of the day or raiding a village in Clash of Clans becomes another bitin challenge instead of a relaxing activity.
Fortunately, you now have the choice to purchase data to suit your needs – whether it’s streaming 10 cat videos, streaming your going-home playlist, or even just catching up with your friends via messaging apps.
50 pesos can already get you 3 days of 700mb worth of open access data plus 600mb data for YouTube, iflix and other video sites. No more feeling bitin especially when you’re in the middle of binge-watching your favorite makeup tutorials or playing or games on the go.
Moments like these are usually unavoidable, but the satisfaction of overcoming moments when you feel bitin is most definitely worth it. Have other scenarios to share? Share them with us in the comments sections below. – Rappler.com
