MANILA, Philippines – Netflix is finally in the Philippines.
Film and TV buffs alike can now stream hundreds of movies and TV shows whenever they feel like it.
Still, there’s one barrier keeping the average Filipino from doing marathons of series such as Making a Murderer or Marvel’s all-new Jessica Jones: a credit line.
Currently, less than 10 percent of the Filipino population owns a credit card, which means that a vast majority may not be able to subscribe to the streaming service even if they wanted to.
To use Netflix’s services, a credit card is required to avail of the free trial. Once the one-month trial is over, Netflix will begin charging monthly.
A Filipino-friendly solution
Luckily, there is a fast and easy workaround to this problem. Instead of using a credit card, you can use PayMaya, a free app available for download through the App Store and the Google Play Store.
Using PayMaya to sign up for Netflix is quick and simple. Unlike a credit card, anyone can use PayMaya without having to fill out any forms or submit documents. There’s also no need to have a bank account. Any mobile user, whether subscribed to Smart, Sun, or Globe, can use the app.
Upon registration using your mobile number, you’ll get your own instant virtual Visa, which contains all the details you need to make online payments: your card number, the card’s expiration date, and its security code or CVV.
After setting up your PayMaya account, you can use it to subscribe to Netflix:
Download the PayMaya app on the App Store or Google Play Store
Load up at PayMaya's Load-Up Centers available at 7-Eleven CLiQQ kiosks, Robinson's Business Centers, and SM Business Centers
Visit Netflix and subscribe:
a. Click on "Start Your Free Month"
b. Choose your plan
c. Create an account
d. Under “Credit Card,” enter your PayMaya account details:
i. Name
ii. Card number: The 16-digit number of your PayMaya Visa
iii. Expiration Date: The date after the words “valid thru” (month and year)
iv. Security Code: The 3-digit number under CVV or CVV2
Enjoy watching Netflix with PayMaya!
Just don't forget to load up before you start your membership. The most basic Netflix plan costs P370 ($8). Netflix may deduct a pre-authorization fee from your PayMaya account equivalent to one-month subscription. – Rappler.com
Any Filipino with a mobile number can have their own PayMaya account. This brings up an important distinction since a bank may deny you a credit card for any number of reasons. PayMaya is democratic – any Filipino can avail of its instant virtual Visa for online transactions. For more information, visit the PayMaya website.
